Since 1 October 2026, a single electronically paid bus or metro journey in Tashkent costs 2,500 soums. The cash fare remains 3,000 soums. The new prices and transfer rules appear in the Ministry of Transport announcement dated 28 September. If you are comparing neighbourhoods to live in, it is a useful moment to recalculate the commute.
A direct journey and a transfer have different costs
Under the published rules, within a 60-minute window the first bus costs 2,500 soums, a second bus costs 1,500, and the third and subsequent buses are free. A bus-and-metro combination within that window also costs 2,500 soums for the first leg and 1,500 for the second.
The clock starts with the first payment. Metro travel is included once in this interval; entering the metro again starts a new 60-minute window. The number of stops alone therefore does not determine the cost. The whole sequence of the journey matters.
Two examples for the working week
Assume 22 working days, with a journey to work and back each day. Paying for each ride separately, without passes or concessions, gives:
- A direct bus or metro journey: 44 rides × 2,500 = 110,000 soums a month.
- A bus and metro transfer within an hour in each direction: 44 journeys × 4,000 = 176,000 soums a month.
The difference is 66,000 soums per person. This is our calculation using the published fares. It excludes weekend travel, taxis and transfers outside the one-hour window. If the apartments you are considering involve different routes, calculate each route separately.
The ministry lists a monthly bus-only pass at 250,000 soums and a bus-and-metro pass at 345,000. For these two examples, separate payments cost less than those monthly passes. More journeys or eligibility for a concession can change the comparison; bundles for a set number of rides are also available.
Check the route from the building
Walk from the entrance to the stop at your usual departure time. Time the wait and the transfer, then check the return route in the evening. “Near the metro” tells you little if reaching the station requires an awkward crossing or a bus ride first.
Add two lines to your apartment comparison: travel spending and door-to-door time. Differences between neighbourhoods then become amounts and minutes you can weigh against the cost of the home.
